Early Detection Matters

“Well, that’s not going to fix itself.” This was the mason’s reply when he saw the plaster damage to the interior ceiling from the tuckpointing problem on the exterior of our building. You can treat the symptom or the source. A little spackle would fix the cosmetics, but the problem was sure to return if we didn’t address its cause. A little fix now or a big fix later. Your choice.

At the Team Clock Institute, most of our calls come from teams whose culture has deteriorated. Once it hurts bad enough, you ask for help. Believe me, a late-stage repair requires far more work than an early tweak. But the fact remains that no amount of breakage is going to get better when it’s left unaddressed. Again, your choice.

Occasionally, we get a call from a team wanting to get off on the right foot. Perhaps a start-up, a new geographic hub of an existing business, or the fresh consequences of a merger/acquisition deal that calls for the clarification of culture anchors on the front end of a long journey. The common thread is the desire to identify strengths and vulnerabilities as early as possible so that assets can be harnessed, and liabilities can be mitigated while they’re still small.

These are gifts. Achieving organizational wellness is considerably easier when beginning from a baseline of health versus sickness. Both starting points can be cured but the treatment course is much different. Whether masonry or workplace wellness, early detection matters.

Now or later. It’s your choice.
